Using Creature Bait for Fishing: Advanced Angling
Ron Colby, Gary Yamamoto Custom Baits. One of other most famous baits is our Yamamoto creature bait. What we’ll have here is a good piece of plastic. This bait will hold a 4 ought hook. All the way down to the skirt, we’ve got 2 arms, the paddle. As the bait’s sinking, we’ve got a nice skirt that will float up in the water once it hits the bottom and a couple of other big, we call them paddle tails here on the bait, so as you’ll pulling along they’re kind of like little crawdad and they’ll sit there and move and move out and expand. We’ve got this bait ridged Texas ring weaveless with the 5/16 tungsten bullet sinker. I like to peg my weights, so I put a little bobber stopper up here on the line, put the weight on, tie the hook on, and that keeps that weight from bouncing around, sliding up and down the line, and getting yourself snagged up on the branches as you’re pulling through the brush. How we usually fish this bait is we usually flip out to a tree, let it sink, give yourself a little bit of line; let it get to the bottom. You’ve got to the bottom where you’ve got the little slack on the line. You just want to drag the bait across the bottom hopping it up, feeling for the rocks. You pull it across, pull it up out of the brush, and just work it back to you.
