How to Make a Rush or Cut Shot: Croquet Rules & Etiquette
Hi this is Ray and today I’m going to show you a roquet shot known as a rush or a cut rush. Now the idea of a rush or a cut rush is to strike your ball into another ball and send the other ball in a given direction, whether it’s straight or at an angle. Now the way that we do that is as follows, for a rush we want to set up with our mallets straight, our feet somewhat back about 4 inches on each side of the ball, we want to grab it in whatever grip we happen to use, bend the knees a little bit, we’re going to bring it back and we’re going to want to bring the mallet forward and without a lot of forward spin just go through the ball and send it into the other ball at a good pace. So we’re going to bring it back and as you can see the other ball when it was hit, went forward. Another type of rush is a cut rush, this is where our ball is not in line with the direction we want to send the ball. So what we need to do in this case is swing so that this ball hits here, sending that ball in the direction desired. So what we need to do for that is once again, set our mallet down, take a half step back, bring your mallet face up just a little bit, lean down and I’m going to take the shot and follow through. Now it’s important here that we definitely hit the ball at the right angle with the mallet because if we were to hit it in this direction, the ball might hop and go over the red ball, so we’re going to angle it back, we’re going to take our back swing and hit the ball. As you can see the red ball went off in the direction that we wanted. In a typical game, you may want to send it all the way down the court but for the demonstrations purposes you can see that by hitting it at that angle, the ball will go in the direction that we want.
