How to Make a Half Roll: Croquet Rules & Etiquette
Hi this is Ray and today we’re going to talk about a croquet shot called the half roll. Now first off, a croquet shot is where your ball is directly against another players ball because you’ve already struck that ball in a roquet shot. Now during a croquet shot, the idea is to move both balls a certain distance or to a certain location. The half roll what we want to do is we want to make our ball that we’re striking move about half the distance as the ball that’s being croqueted. So the way that we want to do that is the following, first we want to have our foot, a left foot here if you’re right handed, about even with the plane of the ball that you’re striking. Then we want to bring our other foot forward, we want to grip our top hand near the top and our bottom hand about halfway down the shaft and we also want to make sure that the angle of the shaft is at about 75 degrees and what this will do is this will allow us to hit the ball in a way that it will allow the ball that’s being croqueted to go farther. And what we do, is we want to bring both arms down at about the same speed and as you can see, the red ball went about half the distance of the yellow, this is great for setting up shots to go through wickets and for setting up breaks. I hope this helps, you should go out there and give this a shot a few times and see if you can make your half rolls.
