Mudding the Second Coat When Installing Drywall

Hi! This is John on behalf of Expert Village. In this video clip, I will be talking about applying our second coat of mud. For our first coat of mud, we used a 6 inch taping knife. For our second, we are going to use an 8 inch taping knife. What we are trying to do is taper out our joint, so right here we have 6 inches of mud that has been put down. Our next knife is going to be 8 inches, so that is going to taper that out a little bit more. So when we are all done and you run your hand across, it is going to be very smooth. After you have mixed your mud, go ahead and apply it in the same fashion that we did with our 6 inch knife until you have a nice smooth coat.
