Cross Hatching & Adding Texture in Wood Burning for Pyrography
We are going in right now and doing a lot of little cross hatching in the eyes. Like I said earlier the eyes are the most important part as it will make you or break you in something like this. It is very important to pay close attention to what you are doing with your eyes. Another think I like to do some times is before I get into it is to practice drawing it on a piece of paper which I’ve did on this here. It helps me to figure what I want to do and how I want to do it and also if you can burn it on a piece of paper, the wood shouldn’t have any problem. I want some darker areas on this right though here so I increased my heat a little bit to help get the darker areas a little bit quicker. You can see them darkening right up. Don’t normally like burning quite this hot. If you were burning on paper you probably at this point would be burning holes into the paper. I want to put a couple of little dark areas in here to establish my darkest areas. Remember anything that you do in regular drawing adds right over into wood burning. Except for one thing, wood burning does something else that we haven’t talked about. In wood burning you can actually texture what you are doing.
