Mounting Brackets for a Ceiling Fan

Hi! I'm Drew Finn and I am here for expertvillage.com. I am a professional home inspector and we are going to show you how to install a ceiling fan today. Now we are going to install the mounting bracket that will hold the fan up. Remember if it was going to be on a slope, we want the hook down, not up. Ours is horizontal so it doesn't make any difference. Now what we are going to do is take out the mounting screws out of here; I've loosened them already. As you can it is shredded up into a second threaded area that screws are long and they are bigger than standard and what that does is it gives you a really good holding capability. Now we attach the bracket, we want the wires to come up through mid center, make sure that all the wires are clear of where the screws are going to be. We don't want to run the screw through a wire or damage insulation on any of the wires. Always start the screws by DNC, make sure you are not cross threading. They should go in fairly easy. We don't want to tuck this screw completely until we get the other one almost all the way up. Okay, there we go. We snugged both of them; real snug. It's got to take vibration of the fan, hopefully very little vibration, there are washers on here to prevent it from backing out. Now we can hang the fan assembly and wire it.
