How to Use Accessories to Decorate Your Living Room on a Budget

Hello! My name is Judy Williams on behalf of Expert Village and today we’re talking about different ways to decorate your living room on a budget. When you’re decorating on a budget, again accessories are just critical but you don’t have to spend a lot of money on accessories. Look at what you have and how that can best be used. I took this old lamp, placed it on this oriental stand and I needed a height. On a table like this, you want different pieces at different heights to add texture and to add depth. So I’ve raised this by using these books and this stand. This is an old piece of whole pottery that someone gave me and I’m just using that as an accent. I’ve used a lot of greens with my reds and you’ll notice in the picture. We’re in Mississippi, the magnolia is our state flower and I love to display it. Again, I’ve just put it on a dollie. Back here, you’ll notice this is just a piece of foam and I covered that with a dollie. You can tell the difference but again, it adds some depth and you’ll see my arrangement is flowing in a J. I’m using a clear acrylic stand, again, very inexpensive. I have this old basket that was my mom’s sewing basket, made out of pine needles. It’s very special to me, so I like to have that on display. I need a phone, so I keep a phone on this table. Then I always like to have coasters to protect my furniture when people are sitting in here drinking. The other thing are family photos. Again, these are inexpensive frames, just placed on some little easels. You’ll notice that this I’m just placing directly on the table. You’ll notice the shapes and the sizes and that I’m burying the angles. This is an old antique frame that I use.
