How to Add Brake Fluid

Hi! This is John on behalf of Expert Village. In this video clip, I will be talking about how to diagnose a brake fluid leak. You will typically first notice a brake fluid leak because your brake pedal will not feel the same when you depress it; it may feel spongy or soft. So the first thing you want to do is find your master cylinder. Typically it is located towards the back of the engine, kind of centralized. Usually on the top of your master cylinder it will say something like “use only DOT 3 brake fluid.” This will tell you that it is in fact the master cylinder. If you open up your master cylinder and take a look inside and see where your brake fluid level is at, if it is pretty low that would contribute to the spongy or soft pedal. You would want to go ahead and fill that back up and wait a few days. After a few days, go ahead and check this again and if it is low just like it was a couple of days ago, then you know that you are leaking brake fluid somewhere.
