Hi! My name is Jesus Cardoso, and I’m going to teach you how to prepare for mastering. Mastering is the last stage of the whole process. When you get to do this, basically means that you’re pretty much finished. A mastering engineer is someone specialized as mixing engineer or as a pianist or as a singer. There are people who devote themselves to make the two tracks that you so masterfully mixed sound great; sound loud and ready for radio. What the mastering process does itself is that it compresses as much as possible the two tracks or the final mix that you have, raises the volume as high as it goes, and then equalizes everything so it sounds good. Let’s say that when you were mixing you felt that you really needed a lot bass. If your mix is too bass heavy, then it’s the purpose and the obligation of the master engineer to remove the excess bass and just give it a perfect balance so it sounds great in every single system and every speaker out there.
