Agents Vs. Managers in Fashion Modeling

Hello, my name is Shalon Delgado and on behalf of Expert Village I’m here to talk to you today about agents vs. managers. Now in the industry you have of course two things, agents and managers and you want to find the distinction between the two. Agents are usually exclusive, which mean that you’re going to sign a contract with them saying that you would work with them only for a certain period of time, usually it’s at least a year. Now managers are usually nonexclusive, saying that you will sign a contract with them but saying that you could work with another manager if they’re going to get you work also and you’re nonexclusive with them usually. Now, sometimes these things can change and a manager can have an exclusive contract also and an agent can have a nonexclusive contract but generally that’s how it works. Also, agents usually take 10% of your commission vs. a manager will take usually 20% of your commission that a job that they book you for. Now that’s not to say that if you go and book yourself a job with a manager that they’re going to get your 20% commission because they shouldn’t get that because you actually booked a job. But with an agent they’ll probably still will get your 10% commission because you’re exclusive with them, meaning that any work that you get, you’re going to have to pay the commission for. Also you want to check out both your manager or your agent to find out what have they done in the past that’s actually good work, you know how often do they book jobs for you or for their other clients and before you sign a contract you want to know their history. Not really from them because they’re going to tell you what you want to hear but you want to research their history on the web or from someone that may be with them also. Thank you for joining me, you may visit me at www.myspace.com/shalon711, have a great day.
