Cross Body Lead Step in Salsa Dancing

This is Salsa Mia at Yuka Lounge on South Beach. You can find us on the web at www.salsamia.com. My name is Susan and this is Alex. We’re here to show you the basics of salsa. Okay, here we go. Now, what we’re going to work on is pretty much the most important step in salsa for both men and women. We’re going to work on what’s called a cross body lead, or as we know in Miami as a dile que no. What we’re going to do on our dile que no…Men, you have to think about your basic. What do you do? Forward with the left and back with the right. First 3 counts. Girls, same thing. You think about your first basic. Back with the right and forward with the left. First 3, guys go forward with the left; girls go back with the right. Men, what you’re doing is you’re opening up in the first 3. 1, 2, and 3. You’re opening up because you’re letting the girl know that he’s going to travel. Okay, now from this position, guys are going back with the right and girls are going forward with the left. Men, the girls are going to know when they’re going to go forward because you’re pushing them with your right hand. 5, 6, and 7. One more time, if we’re here and we’re going to a dile que no, all we go is 1, 2, 3, and 5, 6, and 7.
