Troubleshooting Wireless Routers

Hi! I’m Mike with expertvillage.com, today I’m going to talk about quick troubleshooting step in case you have your router connected but you’re not getting an IP address or you’re not able to get on the internet. Let’s take a look at the back of the router here. On the back of the router, you’ll notice we’ve got our internet connectors or LAN connector as they’re sometimes labeled, over here with the yellow cable. We’ve got our two computers that we need to get on the internet over here on the LAN side or sometimes it’s just numbered one through four, five or eight whatever it happens to be. Occasionally, you might get this cable mixed up. Make sure that the yellow cable here for example, where it’s connected to LAN or to the internet, it’s connected to you cable modem. This will ensure that your router is able to route the correct direction. It just doesn’t work in reverse a little bit like a tricycle. Go ahead and connect your two computers up as they should be. You want to pull the power out of the back of the router. Count to five, and I’m not going to bother to count that high because I don’t want to use up all my fingers here. Go ahead plug it back in and you wait. Watch the light show on the front and when that’s through doing its little song and dance and jumps back all like this, you should be connected back up and ready to go.
