Adding Vegetables to a Fruit Smoothie
Hi! I’m Nili Nathan with Expert Village. I’ve just showed you how to make a basic fruit smoothie using unsweetened vanilla soy milk, a couple tablespoons of yogurt, and then we put in our apples, our frozen banana, and our strawberries. Now, if you want to add some vegetables, which I always recommend. I’m going to use kale, celery, and carrots into the basic fruit mixture. These have all been washed. Kale, I love this vegetable. I just love the texture and the feel of it. Here is a real easy way to get rid of the stem. There you go. Now you take it, put it right into your vita mix. Celery, you might want to clean up a little bit and chop it up. The green part of the celery has more vitamins. I’ll take some carrot, chop it up like that. Carrots have a lot of vitamin A and are very good for us for our eyes. There we have it, it’s all in there. I think I’m going to add a little bit more liquid into this. As my friend Robin always said, “It’s all child’s play.” I don’t measure things perfectly. You kind of just have to have a feel for it. There we go. Alrighty, turn it on, work our way up. Okay, now because this has some green vegetables in it, I prefer to sweeten it. I will use some agave nectar. Just pour a little bit. I’m pouring maybe a tablespoon in here and put the cap back on. You see how great this blended all the seeds of the apple, there’s no pulp. We maintain all the nutrients from the carrot; you don’t throw out the pulp of the carrot. It’s fabulous; I love this. Okay, here we go. Tada! Let me get my glass. We’re making a lot of smoothies today. I’m going to get my neighbors to come over. At this point, you can add a little more of the agave if it’s not sweet enough for you. It’s really great because with the fruit in it and the soy milk, it conceals the green. So even people in your family that go oh I don’t want anything green, this is a good way of kind of mixing it up. I have a tip for kids. Put this into a dark container with a straw so the kid can’t see that it’s green. This is what I do with my 4 year old daughter. When they’re just tasting it and they don’t see it, they don’t see the green. It’s really yummy and it’s sweet and delicious. It’s a good way to get your family members to get their important greens.
