Hello! I’m Marc Zee from Arizona Center of mixed martial arts. I’m here on behalf of expertvillage.com. I’m here to demonstrate the guard pass to a knee bar, used in Brazilian Jiu Jitsu. Go ahead. Okay. Where we start off is Sonny is on the top position; Vincent’s in the bottom in what’s called the guard position. Sonny’s looking to pass the guard, he doesn’t want to get submitted by Vincent, so he’s looking at some kind of pass. What he’s going to do first is he’s going to pin this knee to the mat, he’s going to step onto his foot, and he’s going to drive that knee across his hip and rotating his hips. Go. As you notice as he rotates his hips, he drags his foot behind. What this does is it puts a lock onto the hip so that it’s hard for Vincent to roll out, where this knee is also across, so he almost has an X pattern here, which makes it hard to roll out of that knee bar. From here, Sonny’s going to grab onto the heel. He’s going to rotate the heel toward Vincent’s head, popping his hip, dislocating the knee. Okay, again from a different angle. From here, Sonny is pushing the knee down driving the knee across the hip, rotating his hips all the way through, securing the leg. Here, you see that X pattern across the leg, across the leg. From this position here, Sonny’s hips are below the knee where he can hyperextend the knee. He reaches up, he grabs the heel. He’s going to twist the heel towards me, pops the hips, breaking the knee. Okay, one more time from a different angle. Okay, the knee gets pushed down, Sonny slides his knee across the hip, rotates all the way through. You see the X pattern with his feet across, across. Here’s where you notice what he does; his hips are below the knee. If his hips were above the knee, he wouldn’t have lock on this knee. Next, he’s going to grab onto the heel. He’s going to rotate the heel towards me, popping the hips, breaking the knee. Note to anybody practicing this; the knee is a very strong joint. It doesn’t have a lot of nerve endings in it, you’re not going to feel the break until it’s too late. So if you’re going to practice this home, make sure you use caution. That again is a knee bar pass the guard.
