IN SCHOOL I REMEMBER EACH PLAYER HAD ALL THEIR MARBLES IN THE END CUPS TO START. THE ONE THAT STARTED FIRST GUESSED A NUMBER, OR WERE CLOSEST TO IT THAT ANOTHER KID THOUGHT UP. TODAY WE WOULD USE DICE. THEN WHOEVER WON STARTED FIRST. THE THING WAS TO PUT ALL THE MARBLES THAT ARE IN YOUR END CUP INTO EACH CUP, ONE AT A TIME, GOING ALL AROUND. THE PLAYER PLAYS UNTIL THEY PLAY THE LAST ONE. IF THERE ARE ANY IN THAT CUP, [MORE THEN ONE] THEN THEY PICK UP ALL IN THAT ONE CUP AND KEEP GOING UNTIL THEY HAVE ONE LAST ONE IN A CUP. THEY THEN PICK THAT ONE UP AND ANY ACROSS FROM IT. THEY THEN PUT ALL, IF ANY, IN THEIR END CUP. THEN THE NEXT PLAYER GOES. WHEN ALL STONES ARE GONE, OR NO ONE CAN PLAY ANYMORE, THE PLAYERS COUNT THEIR MARBLES OR STONES, AND WHOEVER HAS THE MOST, WINS.

Thirty-Six Stone Mancala Game
Hello! My name is Melissa Schenk on behalf of expertvillage.com, today we are learning some basic tips for playing the game Mancala. In our final few segments, we’re going to divide the game itself up. Let’s start off with playing a game of Mancala with 36 stones. So by that once again we’re going to have 3 stones in each of the smaller compartments. Alright, so this is a beginning way to start playing the game Mancala. In later clips, we’ll take it up a notch. I like to play usually with 4 stones, it changes the dynamic slightly and if you really want to get advanced, then up that to even 6 stones, so you would need 72 in total. Alright, so let’s get a little bit of a close up on the board itself. You’ll hear me in the background and what I’m going to do is to basically play a little bit of a game with you. So you are player A, I will be player B. So once again, this is you side, your smaller compartments, this is your larger one. This is my side and my larger compartment. So I mentioned to you in your last segment, a couple of different ways to play this and strategically, so I always like to start off with this move here, 1, 2, 3, I get another turn. Take these here, 1, 2, 3. Because my last stone fell in this empty compartment on my side, I get to take this stone plus everything that is directly opposite it. So your 3 stones there and I get to put that in my side as well. Now, of course your opponent is probably going to duplicate what you just did. It’s not a bad thing at all. They probably will duplicate it but it makes the game interesting. So if it’s your turn for instance, you might go, 1, 2, 3, you get another turn there. But you’ll see already the number of stones has already to changer here, so the game itself is beginning to change slightly. Although, if I take these ones on your side 1, 2, 3, you’re actually gaining some stones here, so you’re going to take these stones because you ended up or landed in empty compartment on your side and I had stones opposite my component. So take these stones and put them on your side. You can see that the game itself will end very quickly. It’s a fast paced game, which makes it so much more fun because you can play many games over and over with it, they don’t take long. Once you get into the more complicated games, they take upwards of simply 15 minutes.
