Hi, my name is Dan Kimbrough on behalf of expertvillage.com, in this clip we are going to discuss where a Boston is the game of spades. A Boston is when you take all 13 books in one game. Now there is two ways you could play a Boston. You could say at the begin Boston, that is what we are bidding, Boston. Meaning that you are going to get all 13 books and you are confident enough to bid it in the beginning of a game. Doing so will get you 300 points, it is a very risky call to make because the other team no matter what is trying to stop you. All they need is the 1 book and you lose 300 points as oppose to getting 300 points. Most people when they think they have a Boston will instead go for 10 for a 200 just because it is a little safer than 3 books of lead way. But again you sometimes you just get dealt a great hand and if you are playing individual, if you think you could pull it off you do. If you are playing with a partner and you are bidding and your partner says well I have 6 and you say I can get 5, that is 11 books and if these are definites not possibles, go for a Boston because if you could definitely get 11, you are going to be able to get 13. The way that you play a Boston is very tricky, it usually involves playing your spades early in the deck so you could get rid of them so no one could cut the cards that you have at the end but that is more of a strategy. Again playing a Boston all 13 books you could either call it when you are bidding or you could go ahead and play it out and take all 13. The difference is you are either going to get 130 points or you are going to get 300.
