wait a second... if you bid blind nil aren't you able to trade two of your cards with two of your partners card? so if you have two jokers, you can trade it for two low cards. also, now your partner can help you out by stomping out your high cards (like ace of spades or king of spades)

Playing Blind Nil in the Game of Spades

Hi, my name is Dan Kimbrough on behalf of expertvillage.com, in this clip we are going to discuss what a blind nil is in the game of spades. As you could see I have dealt the cards. Dealer verses the left, partner verses the right of the dealer. What blind nil is without looking at the cards, a team or a individual depending on what you are playing could decide to go blind nil. What that means is I'm going nil. I'm not going to get any books in this game what so ever, without looking at your hand. Now the reason you would do this is that a blind nil is worth 100 points, so if you are team is down by 90 or they are down by a 100, down by 120, they could go for a blind nil. Meaning that they are not going to take any books what so ever. The problem with this of course is if you have decent cards. If I were to say you know what we are down by a 100 lets go a blind nil. Flip my cards over as you could see I have a lot of spades. These spades are going to make it really hard to do a blind nil especially the big joker. The highest of the deck nothing could beat it, our blind nil is now beat because if you get one book you lose a 100 points, you get any book you lose a 100 points. Now the way to counteract it is say that you go a blind nil and the other team decide they are going to go for a high number, well you turn it over and you are like I got a joker which means we are going to take a lot of books. You might try to set the other team so that they also end up with negative points but again a blind nil is when the cards are dealt before anyone gets a chance to look at them, a team or individual decides that they are going nil and they are not going to take any books throughout the game regardless what cards they have in the their hand.
