Hi, my name is Dan Kimbrough on behalf of expertvillage.com, in this clip we are going to discuss sandbagging and the immediate impact of sandbagging depending on how you are playing. What sandbagging is, is that your team bid a certain number and you get more then what you bid. The example here shows that team one bid 6 and team two bid 6, now there are 13 tricks or books in the game of spades because every person has 13 cards. If you both bid 6 that means one team is going to go over with the 6 books and actually get 7, that is just the way that the game works. Now if you are playing with the immediate sandbag rule, what happens is say team one got their 6, so they have 60 points now because each book is worth 10 points. That means team two got 7 books, when you are keeping score and you are using the immediate sandbag rule, team two which took 7 books is actually going to get 50 points for that game because what you do is every book you go over, what you bid you loose 10 points. So they got 60 which was great but then they got one more which would have been 7, so now you have 60 minus the 10 which makes the score 50 to 60. The purpose of this rule is to make sure that you actually bid your hand correctly. What some teams would do is bid low to get the other team to bid extremely high. Say that team one has says we could only get 4, team two is going to look at their hand and go maybe we could get 8, that is 12 books, that still leaves one wild book out there. Now if team one gets 7 books, that means team two did not get their 8 which means that team two is at -80 but this rule helps to defend team two from that happening because team one is now actually going to lose points because they bid 4 and that got 70. Well they got there 4 which is great, they got there 40 points but they are also -30 points now which means they only got 10.
