How to Improve Your Golf Posture & Stance

Hello! On behalf of expertvillage.com, my name is Bryan Pemberton Reserve at Spanos Park and today we are talking about the golf swing and actually we are going to talk about different components but right now we are going to talk about the posture. Posture basically is how you stand to a golf ball. A lot of times you will find players that actually have a hard time with their posture. Generally if you have a bad back or something like that. The tendency is actually stand up a little bit too much rather than standing more at the waist. What that means is this golf club really wants to travel perpendicular to my spine and it is actually going to swing easiest at perpendicular to my spine. The trick is how do we get our spines perpendicular to the ball; that is where you are going to grab the golf club. A lot of times I will see players actually try to change that posture by doing this. Now really I am bending the knees and not my waist. What this does is this club still wants to swing up here. A lot of times you will find players searching for a good golf swing or searching for good posture and they may be missing the ball and they get lower and lower and lower but that doesn't change the fact that this golf club still wants to swing up here perpendicular to his spine. Again a good posture would be getting your spine perpendicular with this golf club when it is on the ground and that is where good posture is going to be. Again when you are actually making a golf swing you are going to find that this posture right here is going to stay in that position all the way through the golf swing so when I actually set my back up like that, it is actually easier to make a golf swing all the way to the top and all the way through as opposed to this posture. Again you will see players like this and again you are going to take the club to here and you are going to want to swing up here and that is not where the ball is unfortunately. So again posture has a lot to do with keeping your back at the right angle to the golf club. One of the other things I see happen a lot is players will actually kind of hunch over a lot so when looking at this right here, you are going to see my posture has changed but it doesn't really significantly different than a good posture. Really all I am doing is I kind of have a slouched back and what you will find this player is doing here right how is he just has his balance on the heels. So if I actually move to the balls of my feet you are going to see better posture. It is a little bit more athletic and when you are making a golf swing you are going to find this is a much more athletic position but you are actually going to get to the ball a lot easier than when you have your weight on the heels or your back kind of slouched again. So we are going to try and get the back angle straight, trying to get it perpendicular to the ball and that is a good posture for golf.
