Ron Gotlin. Biscayne Park Aikido Club Biscayne Park, Florida. I’m sensei and lead instructor. In Aikido, we break balance, we throw, we do wrist locks and we also do arm locks. This technique is going to demonstrate an arm locking technique. As James attacks, I step off the line and break his balance, I’m waiting for his reaction, when he comes back, I can find his elbow and now I can drive him to the ground, place his wrist on my knee, place my hand on his elbow and place pressure on his elbow. In our style, we place pressure, constant pressure so that we don’t cause an injury. It only takes approximately 15 pounds on accelerated pressure to dislocate an elbow, certainly something we don’t want to do. In real time, break the balance, come up, place the elbow and lock the arm. Again in real time from this direction, break the balance, step off the line, find the elbow and again notice my posture stays erect and he’s completely off balance and on the ground. And that’s the basic idea of that technique. Thank you, we’ll be right back.
