Sports Massage Therapy & PNF Stretching Techniques for Back Massages

Hi! On behalf of expertvillage.com, my name is Jean Hurley from Siegels Day Spa in Cottonwood, Arizona, and we’re here today to show you some sports massage techniques. On to the back, I use a technique called PNF. That helps the athlete engage his muscles along with the stimulation from the massage therapist. That we get a nice elongated massage for stretch and for blood flow and for all of those healing benefits along with that. Working into the traps around the scapula, the rhomboids, we want to follow the muscle giving is a nice warm up here following the whole group of the muscle as it goes into the shoulder blade and into the shoulder itself, into the deltoid. A technique for stretching into the lat, would be to extend the arm. I’m going to have him push against me as I push. He’ll feel a nice stretch into the arm through the lads. Using 20% of your body, you’re going to push back against me. You see the muscle engage; now we’re going to relax, shake it out a little bit, relax the muscle. Again, using 40%, come towards, push, you see even more of the muscle engage. You see the muscle stretching and contracting. We’re going to relax, let it breathe here and recuperate. Again, using 60%. Push against my hand; almost full engagement. The lat tops into. See some muscle referral going on, and relax. Let him go back to a state of rest.
