How to Use Drumming as an Advanced Turntable Technique
What's up? This is DJ Coleone on behalf of expertvillage.com and in this clip I am going to show you how to drum. Drumming is another technique you can do on vinyl where it is kind of a trick where you take just a kick and just a snare and combine your own and you loop it in a scratch to make your own beat. So we have this, we have the kick, we have the snare and this is just in some beat right. So we have our little kick and we have our snare. All we want to do basically is we want to do a beat by kick, snare, kick, snare in the simplest way. Right? That is drumming but that is pretty boring. Right? You are going 1, 2, 3, 4 so you want to make it a little funky. So what you do is you take all the scratches you know, you take all the little quick techniques that you learned and you speed it up and kind of make a funkier little beat. Right? So instead of going 1, 2, 3, 4 you can go a 1, a 2, a 3, a 4, 1, a 2, a 3, a 4 and here a funky little beat just from taking these two little sounds in the record. So from that, that is something that is a little more technical. You are doing a few other things in there. On top of that from just doing your basic looping of the beat, you can sort of do pull backs, you can do scratches and other little things to kind of fill out that whole beat so you can get kind of a sound like this. So with that you are kind of keeping the fader open, getting a few more sounds in there to fill it out so you are not just having a basic, basic, kick, snare, kick, snare. From that you can sort of alter the timing in a different pattern to get sort of like a German base sound and you get a different sort of whole other rhythm so there is tons of things you can do to create a different pattern with just a kick and a snare and that technique is called drumming.
