Vibrato Technique for the Cello
Hello my name is Russell Squires and I’m here today on behalf of ExpertVillage.com. Right now I want to talk to you about a left hand cello technique called Vibrato begins off of the cello. We learn the movement by making a circular shape or a coke or drink holding gesture and moving it up and down as if we were going to be drinking. We then take that motion and apply it to the neck of the cello. We put our thumb firmly on the back and our finger firmly in place on a string. We then shake the finger up and down, back and forth, there by both sharpening and flattening the note so that your ear hears a moderate, fuller tone, then if you were just holding your finger still. When applied we can do it fast or slowly to add different intensities to the note. And that’s the Vibrato style.
