Tools for Installing a Deadbolt Lock
Hi! I'm Daniel on behalf of Expert Village. In this clip, we are going to be talking about the tools that are required to install a deadbolt. The most important is going to be your standard drill and go with a cordless or a corded. You want a minimum of a 3/8 inch chuck. However if you are going to be using a larger like a wood auger, you are going to want to go up to a little bit larger chuck. That will only be dependent on upon the drill bits that you are going to be placing and the seal you want to take count of that. For drilling your standard holes your 2/8 holes from where the deadbolts goes. For wood and or metal, you could use a hole saw. For wood only you could use a wood auger. Both of these are the same size drill bits; the only difference is one will only work in wood. For drilling your one inch holes for your strike and also for your latch, you could use a one inch wood auger or you could use a whole saw either way unless you are going into metal casing then only a whole saw would work. For mortising in your latch and your strike plate, you are going to want to have a wood chisel. This is a ¾ inch wood chisel I wouldn't go any larger then that you could use a one inch but chances are that is going to be a little cumbersome. I wouldn't go any smaller then a quarter inch. Of course, when using your wood chisel you are just going just to want a standard hammer. You could use a ball pin or a claw hammer like this. It doesn't really matter whatever you are comfortable with. A punch could be use in several areas of the installation starting your pilot holes in the wood warn metal so they won't wonder. If you are using a hole saw of course, you are going to want any kind of tape measure would do just something to measure your holes make sure that you get the lock placed in the right part of the door and of course, any screwdriver will do. I try to get one that has both flat head or and a Phillips or just two separate screwdrivers but most will just use your Phillips screwdriver.
