How to Install a New Thermostat
Today we’ll be replacing the thermostat on an A/C and heater unit. You’ve already predetermined the correct thermostat, and you just want to match up the wires to the correct letters. You can look down here. G stands for green, so you want to take the green wire and put it through. Sometimes there’s a little slot for it, sometimes there’s not. And you want to make sure that you tighten it all the way down. Just continue around with all the wires. And once you have the wires installed, you want to just take some electrical tape and you just want to wrap it around all these wires so that they don’t get all tangled or anything. Once is really fine. And I would go ahead and put a piece of tape the screws themselves.
And once you have all the wires connected back on the back, you slide it back into the wall and make sure that it’s all level. If it’s not level, it’s not going to work right. It will be too cold or too hot and you do want to take the time to be sure that it’s exactly level.
Once you have it marked, you’re going to take the little wall anchor. What I usually do is take the little screw and make the hole- just tap it through the sheet rock. Just take the wall anchor and tap it through the wall. And then screw it up there. And then you repeat the same process for the bottom screw. And then turn your switch back on, and you should be fine to go.
