How to Play Open Scales on the Cello
Hello my name is Russell Squires and I’m here today on behalf of ExpertVillage.com. Right now I’m going to talk to you about the open scales you can find on a cello. We’re going to start with the lowest one, the open C scale. It begins with the open note C, next we’re going to place our first finger in first position, which is two inches below the peg box with the thumb on the C string to produce a D, then use our third finger to produce an E, our fourth finger for an F and then we go to the open G, followed by a first finger A, a third finger B, ending on a fourth finger C. Every scale begins and ends with the same note, but in a different optic. We can do this all the way up the strings, for the G and the D string.
