Assembling the Frame: How to Build a Small Stage

Hi I'm Grady Johnson and I'm the producer for Strange Company and today I'm representing expertvillage.com. You can see when we assembled this that we did put this together in a basic pattern that does include the center brace for ourselves and also the end pieces. You are going to want to lay it out with the two a long boards on the outer side. Be sure that it is up on something firm because you are going to be putting some pressure on that and then the shorter pieces that we did cut are going to be our end pieces and our center piece. Now when you are using these drywall screws which I recommend you would find that they are pretty sharp so don't cut yourself with them when you are pulling them out of the box or anything and I recommend that you use a good 3 inch screws to put together the 2x4s. Now a little trick whenever you are using these drywall screws to make them even faster just put a little liquid soap on the end of them. Just put a little bit of liquid soap to get them started and it is usually to start at the bottom to get started to find yourself a spot and pop one in there. So don't worry to much about weather or not if it is going into the other piece cause really at the beginning you are just going into the first piece of the wood. Okay now that done I had it bend in where it needs to we got one screw into the corner now we want to go ahead and match that by putting another screw just above it. You could see that it is going straight. Now I got it. Okay now that we got that done lets go ahead and head down to the other end. You want to get the ends first then we do the middle. Now that you have that in about half way go ahead and bite into the wood. Alright that should bite all in there nice and square the way that you want it. Now go ahead and swing around and we get the middle one as well. Again this is my right so I prefer to use my right so that is what I'm going to go with. Alright we are a little bit warped here so we are going to go ahead and straighten that out to. Sometimes it will sit a little low, so make sure that it is nice and square. Check it out. That one looks good so I'm going to go ahead and pop the screw and pop it in there. Good so alright now that we got that done we are ready to go ahead and flip our unit. So just go ahead and grab it and pull it straight up. Very careful. Once you get it standing up straight you want to go ahead and flip that over and lay it all down. Then you are going to grab your back board and pull that back around to the front. Pull that up where you want it. As we set that it went a little deeper cause we are actually pulling the wood into place. Just do the best that you can with it and you are going to build yourself a nice solid even frame.
