Identifying the Parts of a Cello & Their Functions
Hello my name is Russell Squires and I’m here today on behalf of ExpertVillage.com. I’m here today to talk to you about the cello. We’re going to start off right now with the parts of the cello. First we have our scroll, the scroll varies cello to cello, as a decorative piece and can come in many different shapes and sizes. The scroll leads down into the peg box, the peg box holds the top half of the strings taunt. It contains four pegs, these pegs are used for major tuning of the cello. As we follow down, we reach the finger board. The finger board is where the notes are chosen. Moving further down we have the bridge, the bridge is held taunt by the pressure of the strings, and not glued or fastened on in any way. It also can come in many different shapes, sizes, and carvings. Moving further down, we reach our fine tuners, these are used to make minor adjustments in the pitch of the cello. Next we have our end pin, our in pin holds the cello up for a cellist and can be adjusted to many different heights, it can come with a rubber stopper to play in multiple environments. And finally, we have the body, the body contains as many of three different pieces – as a front, sides and back. The front hold the two F holes when the sound is produced.
