The digestive system and intestinal system actually work together, but digestion starts in the mouth. In the mouth you have various enzymes that help to break down certain foods particularly grains. So it is very important that if you are eating grains to chew the food really well. Some individuals say 40 to 50 times to chew your food and basically you want to chew your food until your food becomes like liquid in your mouth. This will help improve your digestive system because it will cause the food when it goes down into the stomach, it will be less work that your digestive system has to do in order to process that food to get it ready for the assimilation and elimination of the body.
