Disadvantages of Choosing a Pet Sitter or Boarding Facility While You Are Away

Hi! I'm Beverly for Expert Village. In this clip, we are going to be talking about the disadvantages to boarding and pet sitting. If you hire a pet sitter, just realize that she is only going to be with your pet for a few hours a day so unless you hire her to stay overnight with your pet, your pet is going to be alone for a good majority of the day and night. One of the disadvantages of boarding is that your pet is going to be in contact with lots of other pets. Some of them may be sick and so viruses like kennel cough can spread quickly. Boarding facilities will usually isolate sick animals but it is not uncommon for viruses to spread. Another disadvantage of boarding is the stress it causes. Your animal is most likely stressed out about your absence. Taking them out of the home to a place with strange smells, animals, food and people will likely stress them out even more. Excessive stress in kennels will leave dogs susceptible to depression, dietary disturbances and eventually illness due to a compromised immune system. If you have a pet that doesn't do well by himself and gets bored by chewing on your possessions, you might want to consider boarding. If your pet is sick or elderly and has lots of medical needs, it might be best to board where they will have constant attention and if they take a turn for the worst, someone will be there. Also depending on where you house your pet, they may not be getting much exercise and they may not get out of their crate very often to potty. Make sure you know what you are paying for and what type of care your pet will be receiving.
