Hello! On behalf of expertvillage.com, my name is Bryan Pemberton from the Reserve at Spanos Park. Today we are going to talk about lag putts. You will find that a player actually spends a lot of time on the putting green and probably half the time he is going to spend on a putting green and you will see that it amounts to about 40 percent of the strokes that you take in a round and you also find that people don't practice their putting enough. Again a three putt is costly and again my putts on 30, 40 foot putts, you will find that if you can get the putts in a 3 foot circle or 2 foot circle that you handicap and score will come down considerably. Next time you go out on the golf course, take a look at your score card and looking at anything or 20 feet and see how many strokes it took you to get down. Generally if you get down 2 or less obviously that is good. If you've gotten anything over 2, that is just a waste of strokes so again we are going to practice our lag putts again and try to keep our scores down. When we talk about lag putts, we are actually talking about 30 foot putts and we want this player to actually try to get this putt within maybe a 3 foot circle. If these happen to go in the hole, that is just a bonus but really you are looking at this putt and really just getting down in 2. So we've talked about the alignment and we've talked about his aligning gear and the way he set his hands. The best way to lag putt exactly is to take your long putt and actually just steal the putt to the hold and what I mean by that is if you were going to take the ball and you were just going to roll it to the hole, you wouldn't necessarily watch your arm, you would just kind of get a feel for how much it is going to take to get there. So again this stroke is just really an extension of your arm. A good thing to do is stand here, get in your putter position and just feel like you are rolling the ball to your target. Again you are wanting to get this ball really within a couple feet. So really a player's goal here is really actually just get this ball from 30 feet just inside this 3 foot circle and that is going to give you a good chance to get down in 2. Again just put some balls here and have a good visual for a 30 foot putt is try to get the ball you know somewhere in this general area. If it is 6 inches short, you still are going to have a 2 but again anywhere in this 3 foot circle would actually be the best way to lag these putts. Again a player from 6, 8, 10 or 12 inches is probably not going to have a hard time getting the ball down in 2.
