Hello! On behalf of expertvillage.com, my name is Bryan Pemberton from the Reserve at Spanos Park. Today we are going to talk about putting and what we are actually going to focus here is on a player's speed and how you can control that. When we talk about speed on putts, we are talking about a player's speed and how hard he is hitting the ball. We talked about a player's intended line and what speed will do is speed will actually affect a player's intended line. So if you have someone that is hitting the ball generally hard, you are going to actually have a straighter line to target. If you have a player that actually has a speed of his putt where it is just falling into the cup, you are actually going to have a player with a bigger art. Okay, we are going to take a couple drills here and this is how we determine speed. A couple of different ways you can determine speed is we are going to take the middle cup, let's say right here, and we are going to take a player that is going to hit the ball kind of hard. So let's go ahead and hit this one a little more firm and you will see that his line is a little straighter. Good! Okay, when we are talking about one of the drills and we talk about speed, I would actually get a player to actually hit three different types of putts. This would be the easy putt; a putt that would just barely get to the hole and drop in. This would be a medium putt where it goes in with medium speed and this putt would actually be hit more firm and take a direct line. Again this is a good drill to get your speed down but it also gets your direction as far as your alignment. We'll hit this putt right here. What we will do with this one is hit this one firm and take a more direct line. We'll hit this next putt with medium speed but we are actually going to change our line here and you are going to see a little bit more bending break and when you take this other putt and just barely try and crawl this over the edge so this one is going to have the most break of all. Again that's a good drill to actually work on your speed and again try to hit in the middle of the putter is actually going to be your most consistent speed just making sure you hit the putter in the middle of the putter and it's called the squeeze spot. One of the things we also do is we have impact tape and one of the things you can do for a drill is put impact tape on your putter here and that will actually leave a mark where you are hitting your ball. Again take really good players and you are going to see that mark is almost the size of a dime. If you got marks spread out through the putter, your speed is going to be very inconsistent. So again try and get the putters where you are getting your putts in the center of the putter or your sweet spot. Again impact tape would help. Sometimes you can even take a marker and this actually helps also. You take a marker and just mark your ball here and that will also leave a mark on your putt. Just kind of tells you where you are hitting the putt. I think you would be surprised on where you actually hit your putts in your putter. Again if you have the size of a spot maybe the size of a dime, that would be really good and your speed is going to be a lot more consistent. You got marks all over your putter your speed is going to be a little tough.
