How to Play Banjo Chords
Hi I’m Fred for ExpertVillage.com and today we’re going to talk about the different chords used for bluegrass music and you’re going to need to go out and get you a set of finger picks for the banjo. You’re going to have a plastic thumb pick and two metal finger picks that’ll go on the first and second fingers and some of the chords that you’re going to use include the G chord, which is actually open on the banjo with conventional banjo tuning. The next chord you need to know is the C chord and for that chord you’re going to put your first finger on the second string on the first fret, like this, then you’ll put your next finger on the second fret on the fourth string and then your third finger will go on the second fret on first string. You always want to put your fingers right behind the fret because that’s going to result in the best sound without deadening the string. And this is what the C chord sounds like. Then the next chord you’ll need to know is the D7 chord, you’ll put your first finger on the second string on the first fret, then your second finger on the third string on the second fret, like so. And that’s a D7.
