Safety Tips for Using Hand Held Power Planer: Part 2

Rob McMahon with Expert Village. Another thing you want to watch out for and are not quite as life threatening, you want to make sure that in the piece of wood that you are working on there is no nails, staples or anything like that. That will cause a chip in the blade and every time you use it, you will have this line right where that chip is. You might be able to move to a different spot of the blade that compensates but that spot is ruined, so another thing to avoid. Not to mention the fact that if you hit a big nail and the nail can get caught up in here, if it’s a carbide blade and shatters the blade and just get bounced around to the housing where it will tear up the housing inside here or it can get shot out and maybe catch your finger or an eye, so there is a lot of things to watch out for.
