Rob McMahon for Expert Village. The power plane replaced a lot of the old hand planes. You get a nice smooth surface and you can scribe with it. You can remove a lot more material than you can by hand and you can control the amount that you remove a lot more accurately. So it is a lot less work and instead of having to carry around so many planes, you just have one. It does the work in a quarter of the time and anything that saves time, saves money.
