File Formats for Importing Audio in Final Cut Pro 5

This is C.J. South representing expertvillage.com. In this clip we are going to talk about identifying, converting and importing audio files into Final Cut Pro. First you need to identify which audio files you want to bring in to Final Cut Pro. Now it is good to keep in mind that Final Cut Pro does not work well with MP3's. The Kodak is weird and when you bring it in as it plays you will hear like this crackling sound so if you ever bring an audio clip in and you are hearing this crackling sound through it, it is probably because it's an MP3. Final Cut Pro works with a format called AIFF. Now most music comes to you in MP3 or MP4 format so they think well, okay I have to get a separate program now. No you don't because if you are on a MAC using Final Cut Pro, you also have iTunes and iTunes will convert the songs for you which is really nice. So go ahead and just open up iTunes here, go over to your music library and then find whatever song it is you want to bring in there. Like okay how about this song by John Mayer, Perfect Sense. All you have to do is right click and there is a selection that says convert. Now before you do that it might not say convert to AIFF. It might say convert to selection MP3. What you have to do to set that up is you have to go up to I-Tunes and go down to preferences. Now in preferences you go to the advanced button and then take that to the importing tab and on import using, you have AAC encoder, Apple, MP3 and .WAV and AIFF. Make sure AIFF is selected. Now you can go ahead and just hit okay. Now you come back to iTunes and now you can right click the song and do convert selection to AIFF.
