How to Play a Clip Backwards: Final Cut Pro 5: Free Tutorial

This is C.J. South representing expertvillage.com. In this video, I am going to show you how to play a clip backwards. So not only can you speed up and slow down clips, you can also play them in reverse or play them backwards. Now why would you want to play a clip in reverse or backwards? Well you know sometimes you might have a scene where it zooms in, let's say it starts at a far shot and zooms in to a close up of something. Well maybe you just want to reverse that. Maybe you didn't want a zoom in shot, maybe you want a zoom out shot and then you can just start it, reverse it and start in on that close up object and then zoom out. There are really many different ways you can do it so let me go ahead and show you how to reverse your footage. First select or put your play head over some footage and then hit Apple J or you can go up to modify and just go down the speed or you can right click it and go to speed. We leave it at a constance speed and all we'll have to do is just click this reverse button and then the footage is reversed, forward, reverse. Also you notice below to the frame blending button, we talked about that in the last clip. This is where you toggle that on/off. So okay, we have reverse toggle, so click okay. Now our footage is reversed. All right, let's watch it first in going forward. This is what it looks like going forward and let me just make this a little bit larger for you so you can see. So that's what it looks like going forward. Then this is reverse. It just goes the opposite direction. You can't tell its reversing, it just looks normal.
