How to Practice Rolls in Irish Flute Playing

Hi I'm David Cantieni on behalf of Expert Village I'm going to be sharing with you some useful techniques for practicing the Irish style flute. I'm going to be showing you some rolls and a roll is compose of two elements I like to call them a flick and a slap. It could be one of the tips like that. So a flick and a slap would look like this on E for instance there are actually two way to finger that. You can use one traditional way is to use the finger above and the finger below with ever note that you are doing. So this would be. Another way that I often do a E role would be so I'm using this finger instead. Now remember that the Irish music is very much based on a study stream of air. There are many ways to use your breathe. But you don't want your breathe to be one of the necessary elements say in a role. So you would not want to accent anyone over another and each note you have tried to have a study stream of air through the whole ornament. A F role this is F sharp on the flute on this flute. Then alternate this is a G role. The alternate is to lift your middle finger which gives it sort of a snapper sound. Next A which uses your index finger and your.
