Hi my name is Dan and I'm here with Expert Village today to talk about how to tie the bowline. While typically it was tied as nautical knot the bowing is very useful in many applications. For example if you need to tie a the winch line of your tent or your tarp around the tree this is how you may tie it. Go around your tree, take your tail in or working end and cross it over your none working end. Make a loop twisting in towards you or in this case towards the tree. Wrap your tail in up and around and back through tracing the working ends in a loop. That is the bowline. There is a excellent knot that you can take a load and yet it is very easy to untie. You simply break its back as we say and the whole knots comes untie. You can tie one more time. Take your working end around the tree. Cross over make a loop in towards the tree. Take you working end around back and behind and that is the bowline.
Dan, Dad was a Merchant Marine in the late 40s and has taught me how to tie a number of knots...and you tie them exactly the same way! I think your instruction is clear and concise and great!
