Using Rebar for your Straw Bale House
Alright, now we’re going to talk a little bit about the preparation for your foundation. The best thing is to not have your rebar sticking up too far past what your first bale will protrude through. Maybe just a little bit to helping lock in that second bale, but not much further than that, mostly for danger reasons. The rebar can be extremely dangerous in your slab when you have it all the way stretched around your concrete and having people, if you’re going to have like a straw bale party- a bale raising, party they call it- where you have neighbors and stuff come out- it can get a little dangerous. So it might be important for the family, and for the project, too, to take the initial responsibility of setting the bottom bales and then maybe inviting your friends and neighbors in.
You want your rebar set and offset every so often so the bales will meet. And I’m going to show you when we set the bales in the next clip.
