Hemming the Sides of a Valence When Making Curtains

Hello! My name is Lindsay on behalf of expertvillage.com. In this clip I’m going to be showing you how to hem the sides. We’ve already put our straight pins in one inch all the way down the side of the valance. As we start to sew you’re going to sew about 4 stitches forward and then back stitch 4 stitches and then you can continue to go. The back stitching locks the seam in place so when you pull on it the thread will not come apart. As you sew you’re going to want to take out the straight pins which hold the fabric in place…also make sure that you keep your fabric pulled tight so that it doesn’t bunch up on you as you’re sewing. As you get to the end of your hemming you’re going to want to back stitch again down here to make sure that your seam stays in place.
