Take Up Lever & Thread Cutter of a Sewing Machine

For expertvillage.com, my name is Neal Jones and I’m with A Perfect Fit Alterations, 102 Main Street, Burleson, Texas, our phone is 817-447-3522. As we continue the tour of this machine, we now come to the back of the machine, anyway it doesn’t look as if there’s a whole lot in the back of the machine but let me point out some things that are here. First the handle which I briefly showed you before, it nicely fits into the machine to give it a nice uncluttered when the machine is being used so that there is no fabric or anything gets caught on it. Then you’ll notice that these areas here are curved so that again there are no sharp corners or no sharp edges and this is the area when you’re sewing where the material has to flow through nicely, so these areas are contoured just in design to do that. This is what we call the take lever for the pressure foot, now in order to hold the fabric into the machine and down onto the feed dogs which are the things that push the fabric through the machine, we have to be able to raise and lower the pressure foot and this is the pressure lever now it kind of hides at the back there because you poke your hand through and operate it but while we’re looking at the back of the machine then that’s it. Now we also have back here a thread cutter, there are actually two thread cutters on this machine but here’s one, the little slot right there enables you to bring thread when you’re sewing up there and it will cut the thread. There’s also a small red button back here which will release the pressure foot and enable you to use some of the other pressure feet that are on top of the machine. Now there is also a screw here which is again, a very easy thumb screw which will enable you to remove the mechanism of the pressure foot and put a whole different accessory on the machine.
