Hi Malik the magic guy for expertvillage.com. Now I want to show you a basic way to fan cards. Now I'm not much of a fanning kind of guy, but I'm going to show you a basic way to do it. Now again it helps if you have good quality cards, plastic coated; and to do a basic fan it is going to look like this. Now that looks not to bad. That is kind of what you are going to end up with. Now you want to start with the cards held just like we did when we did the swivel cut. Held between your thumb and the base of you first finger. Kind of in a right angle to your fingers. We are going to take our thumb and kind of drag it across just like that, and the cards are going to butterfly open. That way. Now you want to try to get it so this card and the card are at least at 180 degrees, cause that is going to give you some nice round shape to your fan. Now if you want, you can do this move as you are turning it; you are turning your hand this way. So as the fan is forming you are turning your hand this way, and what that allows you to do is it gives you really nice way to come around and close the fan again right after you made it. So if we keep our hand kind of palm up, and turning you can come around and close the fan. Now you can also do this with your finger like that. It is a little harder to do, but you can do that. There are ways to fan cards with just one hand. Another which I'm good at, but you can do it—and this is a nice way to have a card selected for a trick because they can just reach in and take one out of there. So let me show you again like this, holding right in here, and take our thumb just like that and close it just like that. That is some ideas on the thumb fan.
