Foxtrot Footwork for Beginning Ballroom Dancing
Hi! On behalf of expertvillage.com, I’m Kelly-Anne and I’m here with my partner Fred. We will be demonstrating basic ballroom dancing. Foxtrot is a smooth dance or a ballroom or standard dance. It goes around the ballroom in a line of dance, which is counterclockwise around the dance floor. This is how people do not collide while dancing together. These steps are setup to rotate that way around the dance floor. Ad lib is a good step to do in the corner. Just like you tuck yourself into a corner, ad lib your way out of it; same thing with the ad lib dance step. You can do this as long as you need to to get in the direction you want to go. Notice, Kelly’s feet when we’re doing the basic foxtrot. She’ll point her toe back before stepping on it. You heard me talking about heel lead for the gentlemen, well this is also heel lead for the ladies in the fact that she’s pulling her heel back when she steps. Now, if she doesn’t point her toe, this does a couple of things okay. It makes it very easy if she doesn’t point her toe for me to step on her foot. Ladies, believe me, you don’t want that to happen. If she points her toe, I can make my step as long as I want before she commits her weight to that. Thank you for viewing our demonstration on expertvillage.com.
