Fifth Position Break in Beginning Ballroom Dancing
Hi! On behalf of expertvillage.com, I’m Kelly-Anne and I’m here with my partner Fred. We will be demonstrating basic ballroom dancing. Our next step for rumba is fifth position breaks. We’ll demonstrate it. Side, back, side, side, cross behind. Same thing; have a box. We’ll do it slow. Okay, ready. Have a box, side, together, side, together, side, cross behind cross behind, cross behind, and have a box. When you’re dancing, think of this as a break. In rumba, you start by doing half of a box. The gentlemen leads into a side step and opens the lady. You lower your hand down to your waist and you rock backwards. Then catch her and hold for a count. Then bring her hand down to waist level and rock again. Rock one more time. Here’s the important part. When the lady comes back close to you, she rotates, faces you. You step directly into her and finish the box. So we go side, together, side, hand down, change weight, close, hold, change weight, close, hold, change weight, step directly forward. Rock and step. Good. Thank you for viewing our demonstration on expertvillage.com. For more information, you can visit my website 56dance.com. For more information about me and where I learn to dance, you can visit keysdancecenter.com.
