Reentering the Backgammon Board
My name is Malcolm Davis, I’m a professional Backgammon player. I’m here for expertvillage.com to hopefully teach you basically how to play. I’m what we call on the roof, so let’s say that I roll a number. I’m going to fix this number, I rolled a number that would not enter. For me to play, I have to be able to since I rolled a six-five, this number is what we call in backgammon a fan. For me to be able to play, I have to bring this checker in and the six and the five are both occupied with two or more checkers by my opponent. If I would have rolled a one, a two or a three, I could have come in on which ever number I rolled and played the other number somewhere. But since I’m on the roof, and I rolled a bad number, I can’t come in and now it’s my opponent’s roll. So we’re going to let my opponent roll now and he rolled a two-one. So basically we’re illustrating the different things that occur. In this case, his best strategy since I’ve already got one on the roof is to put another one up there with a two-one. It’s very essential for me to come in here, I’m in great danger.
