Opening Dice Roll in Backgammon
My name is Malcolm Davis, I’m a professional Backgammon player. I’m here for expertvillage.com and teach you basically how to play. Now to start the game, each side rolls one die, like this, and white has the bigger number. If the numbers are the same, you re-roll until one side has a number that’s bigger than the other. So white has the opening roll, this by the way happens to be the very best possible roll in backgammon. I feel so unlucky. So what does white do? He has a three and he has this one right here. If you will notice, this is one, this right here is one, two, three. This is the correct play for an opening three-one. Now to go back for a second, you could say one, two, three and one. You could say one, two, three, four. Notice I could leap over my opponent’s blockade, but I cannot land on it. So in this case, I would have to say three and one.
