Breathing Techniques for Irish Flute

Hi I'm David Cantieni and on behalf of Expert Village I'm going to be showing you the many aspects of playing the Irish wooden flute. If you are interested in more information or finding out other places where you may find me you can go to www.digdigmusic.com or you could email me at digdig@cracker.com. In order to play a tune on the flute you need to breath that is given but there are many different ways that you could use your breath. Often times you may feel that it is a hindrance to your playing that you actually have to breath but there are many ways that you could use your breath and actually enhance a tune. I will show you just a few of those ways. First of all there is the classical Vebrado . From just pulsing slightly again you don't necessarily don't want to do that with your throat you want to do more in your chest. Then there is many different sort of types of accents that you could use by pushing a little bit more air through the flute and combining it say with your articulation of a gladell stop kind of k so you could go. So that was with sort of a pulsing type breath. Maybe I could try that on a jig you see how that works.
