Preparing Your Home for Pet Ferrets

I’m Fran Freedman from Morning Starr Animal Sanctuary and I’m here to talk to you about ferret proofing your home on behalf of expertvillage.com. After you’re ready to bring your ferret home, you may want to look around your house and see what possibilities they can get into trouble in. Ferrets are very curious, they’re not afraid of anything. Once they go into a hole, they rarely come out the same way. If you are not sure about your home being completely and totally ferret proof, try to ferret proof one room. That means looking around and seeing if there are little sections where they can get under a door. All they have to do is fit their little heads and the rest of the body slips right under there. They can pretty flat when they want to. If they have the run of the house, which is not really recommended because they can get out, they can get under rockers, they can get under couches. Make sure that all holes near sink piping is closed off so they can’t get into the walls that way, under stoves of behind fridges. It’s like having 2 year old around. They love to get into trouble. They will find places to sleep where you can’t find them and then you have to worry where they are. Its best if they have a playpen to play in safely when they’re out. If they’re with you that you are supervising them if they’re around the house.
