Knitting Instructions: Knit Stitch

Now that you've cast on your stitches, you're going to take the stitches on the needle and put it in your left hand, and with your right hand needle you're going to be inserting the needle into the front of the loop. The knit stitch goes from front to back, through the loop on the needle. You're going to take your yarn and you're going to wrap it around the needle and bring it through that first loop. So here's your new loop and there's your old loop. And you pop the old loop off the needle. So, since I'm a continental knitter, I've got my yarn wrapped around my yarn wrapped around my fingers. I'm going to go in through the front of the stitch, wrap the yarn around the needle, bring it through. And you just want to keep your tension even. Wrap it around and pull it through. And there's a cute nursery rhyme where it goes in the front door, once around the back, peak through the window and off jumps jack. And I find that's a cute way to remember when you're starting until it gets annoying. So it's in through the front door, once around the back, peak through the window and off jumps jack.
